SD dress
Sunshine Delerium - Dress
The bustle design on the back of this caused trouble, my back isn't straight so there has to be a centre back seam if the design is fitted. Which it is, so beneath each bustle frill is two backing pieces. The entire skirt is fused, the back laces up but there is also an invisible zip under the right arm. The frill on the hem is a full circle for that "fish-tail" look and the waist belt wraps and ties at the back. There is also a cowel at the front neck. I'm not entirely happy with the fit but ran out of time somewhat at the end of term.

The mood board and illustration can be viewed here.

Thanks to Sabi for the wig. I styled it into a ponytail and brushed the fringe across the face emo style. Hairspray and gel were used to hold it in place. The crown is made from foam, hot glue and a slide in hair clip. The foam was sealed, painted with acryllics and varnished. The earrings were sculpted from modelling paste and fixed onto the hooks with gold yarn and sealed. The wand star was sculpted from modelling paste, glued onto a wood stick and had gold ribbon wound around the end. It was also painted with acryllics and varnished. Polari luma plush is made from wool felt, hand sewn. Blue fabric eyes were sewn on, painted and sealed.

Rosalina - Super Mario Galaxy
I wore this to Manifest 2009 Sunday. The outer green dress was drafted from my strapless bodice block, fitted sleeve block and a 3/4 skirt. The beading on the front isn't true to the game but I had all these little star beads and the dress seemed so plain. The star broch on the front was sculpted from modelling paste. The skirt has 3 layers, the outer green layer, the which ruffled layer and an inner petticote with netting on the hem for fullness.
It was a very windy day which helped to capture the drape of the skirt in the photos.

Costumes worn to Manifest '09 Saturday. I was Vivi, some guy who deffinitely wasn't Jun was Zoro, Sabi was Sogeking/Usopp, Ralph was Luffy, Steph was Nami, Adam was Chopper, Sevenpies was Robin and Luca was supposed to be our Sanji but this photo features some random as Luca was helping to run the costume competition and was held up with that most of the day.

More One Piece can be viewed in Fanart 06 and Clothing & Costumes 07.

Thanks again to Sabi for this wig. It was styled into a ponytail and a small amount of hairspray used to hold the fringe and bangs in place. The earrings and gold beads on the necklace were sculpted from modelling paste, sealed, painted with acryllics and varnished. I used fishing line for the necklace and blue beads. The bracelet and bandage were purchased. This photo also features the 3 clip on earrings I made for zoro. Instead of sculpting the beads I made them from polyester ribbon and sealed it with heat. Anything else would have been too heavy and fallen off.

zoros katana
Zoro's Katana
These came from a junk shop. They're a bit short but for costumes these are fine. I painted them, first with a layer of sealant then with acryllics and adhesive to finish. The white katana is "Wado Ichimonji" and is the one which belonged to Kuina, it only needed gold details painted on and was the easiest. The red one is "Sandai Kietsu" the cursed blade Zoro obtains in Loungetown, this needed black and gold stripes and the only problem was making them even. The black katana is "Yubashiri" which was given to Zoro by the store owner in Loungetown, it was painted entirely black with gold details. All 3 blades were painted silver.

Princess Vivi Nefertari - One Piece
I wore this costume to Manifest 2009, Saturday with a One Piece group. The skirt is basically 2 rectagles sewn together with a ribbon and lace waistband, held up with elastic. The flag on the front is wool/polyester suiting and satin. The top was traced from my best fitting bra andmade from the same fabrics as the flag. The shawl is a synthetic organza. The shoes were cheap sandals I pulled apart and re-made using denim.

roronoa zoro
Roronoa Zoro - One Piece
Some hot guy who deffinitely isn't Jun was Zoro in the One Piece group. His hair was styled with green hair spray and his eyebrows were coloured with green eyeliner and eye shadow. The top came from an opp-shop, I removed the collar, fixed the neck hole and added the button holes and buttons. The pants are his work pants and the shoes came from an opp-shop. The belt is made from a geen jersey knit which I bagged out and the stripes were added by stitching straight lines in black thread.

Vivi and Zoro photos are by Neil Creek.

Contour Draping - Bustier
Contour Draping - Bustier
Contour draping is part of special occasion class at TAFE. This was made by draping a calico bodice directly to a mannequin, once the fit was correct 2 bodices were cut, fused, bagged out and boned, then they were pinned onto the mannequin and the magic began. I used scraps from the Sunshine Delerium dress cut in wide strips. Cutting them on the bias helps mold the fabric into shape. Once fabric is pinned into place it is hand sewn down. I had the eyelets done at Button Mania, it is laced with gold cord. The lace trim on the top and bead work on the front are hand sewn. The boning is 12mm rigeline.

pleated tartan skirt
Pleated Tartan Skirt
This was made to go with my Tartan Bustier using fabric which was left over from that project. I drafted the pattern back in July but was hit with a serious case of lazy and didn't construct it until September. It only took around 6 hours to construct. It fastens at the back with a metal zip and had D-rings and belt loops for accessories to be attached. The pocket is my favorite part, I drew the cross print in Adobe Illustrator and printed it onto transfer paper, transfered it to calico, cut it out with pinking shears and sewed it onto the pocket. It looks and feels like vinyl but it's just gool old calico! I used a medium weight woven fusing for interfacing.

fabric manipulation dancer bra
Fabric Manipulation - Dancer's Bra
This was my final project for fabric manipulation class at TAFE. The bra itself was purchased for around $6, it was plain black, all of the details were made by me and hand sewn on. I dyed the lace with tea and coffee, it smelled like vanilla afterwards. The pom-poms on the front were made from circles of fur and rose on the front was made by folding a ribbon. There is a bigger rose on the back made from lace which was folded and scrunched. The bead work and sequins were all hand sewn on.

small wollen top hat
Small Woolen Top-Hat
I made this hat to wear at TAFE for the presentation of my Tailoring project. The fabric is wool left over from Tailoring. It has a canvas base which is interfaced with fusing on one side and wadding on the other. It was entirely hand stitched. I also made the bow and rose on the front.
gold leopard hairpins
Gold Leopard Hair-Pins
These hairpins were made to wear for my Special Occasion Wear presentation. They are made from chopsticks which I sanded and varnished. First the gold ribbon was wrapped around, next the leopard print fabric was wrapped around the ribbon and the gold cord was fixed in place last was some gold and brown beads attached on the ends.
The leopard fabric is leftover from the underbust corset.
vinyl leopard underbust corset
Leopard & Vinyl Underbust Corset
This corset was made as a part of the outfit for my Special Occasion Wear presentation. The pattern was drafted to my measurements and the wast adjusted to the desired width. It reduces approximately 10-15cm.
It has a core of stiffened linen interfaced with fusing on both sides. The lining and binding are polyester satin and the outer is vinyl and leopard print faux fur. The paw print on the front was hand sewn onto the vinly.
It laces at the centre back and has 14 lengths of boning, 2 flat steel in the centre front, 4 flat steel in the centre back and 8 spiral steel in the seams.
